Did you know that even your little green friends often get the chill during winter? The cold winds of winter make the survival of indoor plants a challenge often resulting in their death. But there is nothing to worry about, because there are several things you can do to save your little green buddies.

You know what? Your plants are not that thirsty during winter. Like some animals, the plants sort of goes into hibernation during winter. The rate of growth in house plants reduces to a large extent during the season of chill. Hence excess watering during the winter can lead to rotting of leaves as well as root causing the premature death of the plants. It is best to water plant at least once a week, however, some plants might need water a more frequent watering.

Like you, even your green buddies love the warmth of the sun during the winter. It would be great if you can move your green friends a little closer to the sunlight. But do not keep them in path of the wintry breeze. It will do them more harm. Trust us, even indirect sunlight will do wonder for your plant buddies. And in case you find plant leaning towards the direction of the sun, give it a little spin, it will even out the slight bend. Also, you can add a bit of indoor lighting to supplement their growth.

As winter is a period of dormancy for the plants, a dose of fertilizer can be a bit hurtful for them, because the extra nutrients would be extremely futile. You can either hit the pause button or dilute them to bare minimum. But a word to the wise: give your plants a break till next spring, repot and then use fertilizers.

Most house plants thrive under tropical weather conditions. Like humans they need a little top up of moisture. You can do it in two ways, either keep your window closed and maintain the room temperature or you can use an artificial humidifier. It will keep the moisture intact and keep your plant healthy during the winter.

Winter can be a dusty period due to the lack of moisture in air. Dusts and grime often gets accumulated on the leaves which can lead to the blockage of sunlight leading to the wilting of leaves. So, this winter try sponging the leaves with a wet cloth. It will keep plants healthy and lush green throughout the year.
